Family and friends will gather to celebrate the life of Christine L. Shinn at 11 a.m. Saturday, December 27, 2008 at Westminster Presbyterian Church. Cremation is under the direction of Lake Ridge Chapel and Memorial Designers.
Chris died Monday, December 22, 2008, surrounded by her family.
Born September 27, 1952 to the late Merton and Opal (Teig) Eggeman in Lee's Summit, Mo., she moved with her family to Butler, Mo. at a young age. Chris graduated from Butler High School. She received a Bachelor of Science degree in music education from the University of Missouri-Columbia.
On June 11, 1977 in Butler she married Alan Shinn, and they began their married life in Lubbock. Alan later accepted a teaching position at Southwest Texas State (now Texas State) in San Marcos, and Chris earned her Master of Music Education degree there.
The couple returned to Lubbock in 1982, where Chris taught in several schools, including LCU and LISD. She spent most of her career at Iles Elementary School, where she taught piano, choir, general music, and led the after-school Fine Arts Program. She retired this past spring.
Chris's ability to communicate the language of music to everyone, from the youngest of her students to adults, was truly exemplary. In her years of teaching, she literally touched thousands of lives, as she freely and openly shared her love of music and her family, always with an optimism and resourcefulness that was an inspiration to all.
Chris was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, where she was the Director of the Chancel Choir for 14 years. She enjoyed playing the piano and was an avid reader. However, her life's passion was her family. Chris was a loving wife, mother, sister, and friend, and all those around her loved her in return. Among those left to cherish Chris's memory are her husband, Alan; two daughters, Erin Shinn of Kaufman and Lauren Shinn of Athens, Ga.; and a sister, Martha Tatman and husband Pete of Leawood, Kan.
