Rue Porter, 77, Granby, Mo., died at 8:55 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 20, 2008, at his home following an illness. Mr. Porter was born July 28, 1931, in Newton County, Mo., to Norman Porter and Cleva (Fullerton) Porter. He graduated from Granby High School as valedictorian in 1949. He was a former Granby mayor and served on the East Newton school board for 14 years. He had worked at Mid-America in Monett for 19 years and then at La-Z-Boy in Neosho for 10 years. He was athletic director for the Granby summer league and was a member of the Church of Christ. He married Charlene Kisling on Sept. 28, 1951. She preceded him in death on March 27, 1996. On Jan. 18, 2002, he married Lou Ann (Walker) Cook and she survives. Other survivors include three sons and spouses, Kenny and Sherry Porter, Carthage, Mike and Marietta Porter, Stark City, and Robert and Carol Porter, Harrison, Ark.; two daughters and spouses, Debra and Kim Reynolds and Tammy and Danny Gordon, all of Granby; step children, Alan and M'lle Cook, Granby and Ronna Patterson, Carthage; a brother, Rex Porter, Naples, Fla.; two sisters, Ethel McInturff and Evelyn Martin, Neosho; 11 grandchildren; and 6 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2008, at Clark Funeral Chapel, Granby. Bobby Stafford and Danny Boggs will officiate. Burial will be in Granby Memorial Cemetery.
