Born in northern Italy in 1866 during a period of time that his home province was part of the Austrian-Hungarian Empire, he emigrated to America in 1898 and settled in Elk County, Pennsylvania. Silvio never saw his parents again. Known for most of his life as "Sam", he was a coal miner by trade. He married Palma Fenice around 1902 and was the father of nine children: Donoto(Pete), Alex(Bob), Neal, Leo, Mary, Joe, Theresa, Clara JoAnn(Dola), and Carolina(Ida). His wife passed away in 1920 and the family later lived in Huston, Clearfield County, Pennsylvania by 1930 when he retired from the mines. Sam died in Pennsylvania in 1952 and is buried near his wife. He was 86 years old.
