Corporal Albert Benjamin Duryea joined Able Company, 24th Marines, on September 3, 1943. He had been stationed at the Marine Base at Terminal Island, and was coming up on the third year of his enlistment.

Corporal Duryea served on Namur, and landed on Saipan. On June 16, he was attempting to help the crew of a knocked out machine gun when a piece of shrapnel from a Japanese shell hit him in the head, killing him. He was buried in Grave 602, Row 7, Plot 3, 4 MarDiv Cemetery.

After the war, his remains were returned to California.
