Esther is the daughter of Samuel and Amelia Emma Scott, Rushton.

Esther immigrated to the U.S. with her mother and four siblings on the ship Wyoming; leaving Liverpool, England on 14 September 1878 and arriving in New York on the 25 September. Her father, Samuel, came 24 May 1879, leaving Liverpool on the ship Wyoming. The company arrived in New York on 3 June 1879.

She married Married John Brooks, 14 June 1883, Salt Lake, Utah, by Judge Elias Smith.

"Mrs. Esther Rushton Brooks, 622 South Fifth East, died Thursday at 4:15 a.m. at her residence. She was the wife of John Brooks.

Esther Brooks was born Feb. 22, 1864, in Staffordshire, England, and came with her parents, Samuel and Amelia Scott Rushton, to this country 70 years ago. Mr. and Mrs. Brooks, being married June 14, 1883, recently celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Surviving are her husband, John Brooks, and the following children; John R. Brooks, Burbank, Calif., Wilford Brooks, Los Angeles, Mrs. Esther Morey, Los Angeles, Mrs. Dora Doble, El Monte, Calif.; Irene Brooks, Salt Lake City; 14 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Funeral arrangements will be announced from 255 South Second East (Kingdon Mortuary)."

"Funeral services for Mrs. Esther Rushton Brooks, 81, who died Thursday at her residence 622 Fifth East St., will be conducted Monday at 12:15 p.m. at 255 South Second East St., by Bishop A. Lewis Elggren, Second Ward.
Friends may call at place of funeral Saturday and Sunday from 4 to 8 p.m. and Monday prior to services. Burial will be in Salt Lake City Cemetery."

Cause of Death: Cerebral Hemorrhage
