"FLANAGAN - Iva Bertsche, 84, died at 11:45 a.m. yesterday (Oct. 16, 1985) at the Meadows Mennonite Nursing Home, where she had been a resident for eight years. Her funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Meadows Mennonite Church, the Rev. Leo Miller and the Rev. George Clausen officiating. Burial will be in Waldo Cemetery.Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Froelich Memorial Home in Flanagan, and one hour before the funeral at the church.
She was born April 11, 1901, in Chicago. She was raised by Elizabeth Van Doran. She married Nyle Bertsche on Feb. 15, 1922, in Pontiac at the Methodist Episcopal Church. He died in August, 1939. Surviving are two sons, Milton, Flanagan, and Richard, Pontiac; two daughters, Lois Yordy, Graymont, and Ruth Blumershine, Albuquerque, N.M.; 14 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one daughter, one son, and one brother. She was a member of the Meadows Mennonite Church. She taught school in rural Flanagan. She was a former cook in the Flanagan High School Cafeteria.
