Sarah Elma Stubbs was the daughter of John Townsend and Esther Bailey Stubbs. She was born near Richmond, IN and was educated in the school at Hesper, KS. On 12 Oct 1880, she was married to Jesse Butler Kersey. Eight children were born to his marriage. After their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Kersey moved to Bloomingdale, IN, where their son, Charles, was born. From 1884 to 1892, their home was in Barclay, KS. Later they moved to Mulvane, which has been their home to the present time. Mrs. Kersey belongs to the Friends and Methodist churches and has been active in church and social work. Mr. and Mrs. Kersey find time to travel and enjoy life. In 1927, they spent a year in Los Angeles, CA and, in 1938, in Boradus, Montana. The years have dealt gently with Mrs.Kersey. She is a strong, forceful woman and a worthy sister of her distinguished brothers.
