Virginia R. Abdill, age 58, a resident of Poquoson for 40 years, passed away at her residence on Sunday, July 2, 2000. She was born in Hampton on December 10, 1941, and was the daughter of the late Bennie M. Wood and Mary Alice Hansford Wood. She was the loving wife of Howard "Cunner" Abdill Sr. who survives. She was a member of Messick Chapel and a homemaker.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Rose Marie Winder.
Besides her husband, she is survived by a son, Howard Abdill Jr. of Poquoson; two daughters, Doris Abdill of Poquoson and Patty Abdill Smith of Yorktown; a grandson, Tyler Alden Smith; three sisters, Betty Freeman of Poquoson, Shirley Lemonds of Seaford and Mary Ann Gross of Sarasota, Fla.; and many close nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 5, at the chapel of Claytor Rollins Funeral Home with the Rev. Milford C. Rollins officiating. Burial will follow in Parklawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday and at other times the family will be gathering at the residence, 214 Wythe Creek Road, Lot #36 in Poquoson. Memorial donations may be made to the Poquoson Rescue Squad, 1035 Poquoson Ave., Poquoson, VA 23662.
