Day, Charlotte age 16 of Grants Pass (IOOF) was almost instantly killed near Canyonville Sunday July 19, 1931 when the auto in which she was riding with her parents skidded from the highway and turned over. She was with parents Mr. & Mrs. John Elmer Day 206 E "D" St to Portland. Parents only slightly injured. Freshman at GP HS member of Baptist church choir. Survived by parents & bro Hubbard Day cashier at Western Union at Denver & sister Mrs. Edith Paddock Portland. "Funeral services for Charlotte Day, 16, who was killed Sunday when the car in which she was riding with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Day of Grants Pass, turned over on the Pacific highway about 45 miles north of this city, will be held Wednesday afternoon at 2:00 in the Baptist church parlors. Interment will be held in the Odd Fellows cemetery.
Mr. and Mrs. Day and daughter were on their way to Portland when the accident occurred. According to reports, Mr. Day was going down hill and was using the brakes, when they suddenly locked, causing the car to turn across the highway and tip over. Charlotte, who was in the front seat with her father, was almost instantly killed. Mr. Day was slightly injured and Mrs. Day was hurt to some extent but suffered mostly from shock.

The Girl was accompanying her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Elmer Day, 206 East D street, to Portland for a short vacation. Mr. and Mrs. Day were only slightly injured and were returned to their home in Grants Pass a few hours after the accident which occurred about 9 o'clock.
The auto which was an old model is reported to have left the highway when the brakes were applied on a down grade. As it turned over it is reported to have crushed Miss Day.
The dead girl was a freshman in the Grants Pass high school and an active church worker. She was affiliated with the Baptist church in Sunday school and league work. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Hall Funeral Home.
Mr. Day, wife and daughter had left Grants Pass early Sunday morning. He was driving at the rate of about 25 miles an hour and was 45 miles north of this city when the accident occurred. He was using the brakes going down the hill when they suddenly locked, causing the car to turn across the highway and it rolled over. No other car was involved in the accident. Charlotte, who was in the front seat, suffered a fractured skull and died almost instantly. Mrs. Day was injured to some extent, but it is thought she was not hurt internally and she is being cared for in her home. Mr. Day received only minor injuries.
Funeral arrangements have not yet been made.

Funeral services were conducted by Rev. E. J. Dodson at the Baptist church Wednesday afternoon, at 2:30 o'clock. Interment was made in the Odd Fellows cemetery."
