William was the second living child of Nellie and Verner Gray. Verner was the Vice President of the Farmers & Merchant's Bank of Gardena, a Prominent Real Estate Broker and The Exalted Ruler of the Mason's Lodge in Gardena, CA. William's mother was Nellie Smith Gray - Nellie's mother was Martha Ellen Sackett (of the famous Sackett Family)
Martha's mother was Permalia Vervell (who came to California in a covered wagon.
Nellie and Verner's first child was miscarried after an accident where the buggy wheel hit a rock and threw a pregnant Nellie to the ground, but her long skirt got caught up in the works of the buggy, and she was drug some distance as Verner tried his best to stop the buggy.
William grew up in Los Angeles, starting out as a bookkeeper in the Bank of Italy (Later to become Bank of America), in downtown L.A.
Through the years William grew to be a fine tall young man and married his school sweetheart, Joan. Together they had William "Kenneth" Gray who now resides in Tucson, AZ.
This marriage didn't last as there were irreconcilable differences.
After living a few short years as a bachelor and having shared custody of little Kenny, William met Stella Albers Gambina who was recently divorced and sure looked pretty, so sometime in the early 40's William married Stella. They worked together at Decca Records. She was an Inspector and he pressed records. They were both Shop Stewards during the time of the Mc Carthy Hearings, and witnessed this entire page of American History. They were also drinking buddies with Neil Reagan, (Ronald Reagan's brother).
Kenny would come and stay with William and Stella who had a small apartment close to the Downtown part of L.A. When Stella quit her job so she could stay at home and work as a Home Maker, William went to work for Columbia Records. From there he went to Columbia Steel, then Bethlehem Steel, and in the early 50's he and Stella moved to Redondo Beach, bought their first little house, and William got work at the So. California Water Co. where he retired from at age 65.
They had a great marriage that lasted until William passed away in 1987 from kidney failure. At the time of his passing William was 77 years old.
