John Melvie Dukes Bay Minette, Alabama. John Melvie Dukes died Wednesday at his residence. The Bay Minette resident was a retired game warden with the Alabama Department of Conservation, Game and Fish Division, serving from 1956 to 1974.
Dukes, 81, was a member of the National Rifle Association, Baldwin County Wildlife Federation and the Alabama Wildlife Federation. In 1970 he was named Conservation Officer of the Year by the AWF.
A native of Rockville, Alabama, Dukes was a World II veteran having served with the U.S. Army.
He is survived by his wife, Allie Mae Stewart Dukes of Bay Minette; two sons, Steve Dukes and Johnny Dukes, both of Bay Minette; a brother, Eulyce Dukes of Foley; three sisters, Lois Booker and Cleo Steadham, both of Foley, and Nettie Mae Younce of Saraland, Alabama.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at the chapel of Norris Funeral Home with the Rev. Jerry Haase, Dr. H.B Shepherd and the Rev. Dale Younce officiating. Internment will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery.
The family suggests that donations be made to the Alabama Sheriff's Boys and Girls Ranches.
Funeral arrangements are being handled by Norris Funeral Home in Bay Minette.
