Kent Richard Fox was the only son of George Henry and Araanna (Bean) Fox. He was a member of the Christian Science faith, like his father.
Kent attended the University of Maine where he was a member of the "Beta Theta Pi Franity and graduated with the class of 1910 with his B.S. in Chemistry.
He married Marion Louise Gilbert and 3 children were born to them. Pauline Gilbert Fox, A son (still born), and Margaret Ellen (Fox)Reed.
Kent's first job after graduation was at Penobscot Chemical Fiber Co. where he worked from 1910-1917 as a lab chemist and a supervisor. Then, from 1917-1922 he worked for Electron Chemical Co.
According to his daughter Pauline, Kent developed the "Allen More Cell" during W.W.1 which had something to do with chlorine gas.
Kent then moved to Illinois where he began a long career and friendship with the Monsanto Chemical Co. and it's people. There he worked as a Supervisor of Chlorine and chlorine products. After 10 years (1923-1933) He moved to St. Louis M.O. where he became the Manager of the Sales development department in the Organic Chemical devision. Also, by his associates Kent was given the honorary title "The Colonel" because he was involved with some top secret work for the government.
My g grandfather was also a member of several professional organizations and met at laest 2 U.S. presidents during his life time- Theodore Rosevelt and Dewite D. Eisenhower. Kent made many friends and helped scores of men get their start at Monsanto, some of which went on to hold higher positions than himself, including President of Monsanto. At one time Kent was offered a promotion to become Vise President but turned it down not desiring the responsibility.
Kent owned quite a bit of stock in Monsanto and was able to provide well for his family.
A great sport pass time of Kent's was playing golf. He often played golf with business associates, friends, his daughter Margaret and son in law Wesley Reed.
My mother Gail Fox Reed was his only grandchild whom he loved very much and helped raise. My mother always said she thought of him as her father and that is why she named her fist child after him.
A few other interesting facts about Kent are: *He and his family lived in England from 1936-37. *Kent personally knew England's Ambassador to India (Hodges)Whom gave Kent an autographed photo of Weston Church Hill.He was also friends with Mr. Walt Disney. *Kent helped work on the Atomic Bomb.*Over a thousand people attended Kent's funneral including the Mayor of St.Louis and many from distant lands.
Kent, like his father was a kind and generous man and in my family he is always talked about and remembered with admiration. Written by:Daniel Lee Bowling and A.M.Bowling T.
