Dorothy R. Atkins, age 97, of Laurie, passed away Monday evening, October 6, 2008 at Lake Regional Health System in Osage Beach. She was born June 15, 1911 in Scott City, Kansas, the daughter of Robert Pinkney and Mary Pearl Finkenbinder Roark. She married Karl Kitchell Adams who preceded her in death. She later married Leroy Thomas Atkins, who also preceded her in death. Mrs. Atkins was a retired secretary for many years in Oklahoma and Missouri. She was a former member of the First Presbyterian Church in Kansas City, MO and Shawnee, OK, and was currently active at Ozark Chapel United Methodist Church in Laurie, where she had served as president of the United Methodist Women for three terms. She is survived by five grandchildren, Cathy Moore of Shawnee, OK, Richard Smith of Monahans, TX, Steven Adams Smith of Colorado Springs, CO, Melanie Leffert of Raytown, MO, and Karl Adams of Decatur, TX; eight great grandchildren, four great great-grandchildren, many other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents and husbands she was preceded in death by one son, Karl Thomas Adams, two daughters, Carolyn Adams Smith and Marjorie Sue Gilley, two brothers, Walter and Harry Roark, three sisters, Evelyn Dale, Bertie Wilcox, and Velma Atkins, and one grandson, Michael Adams Gilley. Graveside services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 8, at White Chapel Cemetery in Gladstone, MO.
