Miya Rodolfo-Sioson died on December 3, 2008 of advanced breast cancer at the age of 40. She was the sole survivor of a shooting at the University of Iowa that claimed the lives of five faculty members on November 1, 1991 and left her permanently paralyzed. At the time, Rodolfo-Sioson was a 23 year old undergraduate. She graduated from the University of Iowa and subsequently moved to the Bay Area. She was an advocate for the rights of the disabled, and a true survivor and inspiration.
