Funeral services for Christal William Adkins, 91 and Ila Mae Redmond Adkins, 81, both of Grayson were held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, May 18 from the chapel of Riser Funeral Home in Columbia with the Rev. Larry Adkins and Rev. Paul Browning officiating. Interment followed for Mr. Adkins in the Old Union Cemetery, west of Grayson, after which interment for Mrs. Adkins followed at the Hasley Cemetery in West Monroe.

Mr. Adkins was born on August 23, 1907, to the union of William "Bill" and Molisie Cox Adkins and died Saturday, May 15, 1999 at his residence.

Mrs. Adkins was born on February 15, 1918 to the union of Jacob Edward and Mary Elizabeth Taylor Sanders and died May 15, 1999 at her residence.

Ila Mae and Christal were married for 27 years.

Mr. Adkins was a retired timber cutter and Mrs. Adkins was an Avon Representative. They were both members of the Old Union Baptist Church.

Mr. Adkins is survived by his daughters, Linda Shumaker of Grayson and Shelia Laffoon of Columbia; his sons, Lavelle Adkins, Virgil Adkins, both of Grayson, Gary Adkins and Larry Adkins, both of Clarks, and Jimmy Shirley of Trout; his five step-children, a niece, 22 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and 8 great-great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Adkins is survived by daughters, Patsy Walsh of West Monroe and Janice Honeycutt of Point Blank, Tx.; her sons, Vernon Redmond and Billy Redmond, both of West Monroe and Bobby Redmond of Blacksburg, SC; her five step-children; her sisters, Vertie Meredith of Clarks and Margaret "Sue" Cox of West Monroe; her brothers, Vernon Sanders of Deckard, TN, Johnny Sanders of Monroe and Robert Chambless of West Monroe; 21 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren.

Mr. Adkins was preceded in death by his son, Billy Jean Adkins and his grandsons, Charles Ray Adkins, Kenneth Adkins and Terry Adkins.

Mrs. Adkins was preceded in death by her first husband, W. J. "Buddy" Redmond, Jr. and her son, Glen Redmond.
