Per SC Death Certificate 15701 - she died on Sept. 10, 1938. Daughter of Joseph B Kershaw and Lucret Douglas.


Tribute paid to Josephine Serre Kershaw deLoach, whose death Saturday morning at Pawley's Island occasioned the entire community with distinct lose. Mrs. deLoach was visiting her son, J.B. Kershaw deLoach and family at the island resort.

Mrs deLoach was the last surviving member of the children of Gen. Joseph Brevard Kershaw and Lucretia Douglas Kershaw. Her great grandfather was one of the early settlers of Camden and the county of Kershaw was named for him.

Born in Camden, April 8, 1867, Mrs. deLoach had lived here all her life except for a few years spent in York and Hampton counties. Surviving are six children: J.B. Kershaw deLoach, James E deLoach, John Kershaw deLoach, Serre Dutarque deLoach, Louis Douglas deLoach and Miss Faith deLoach. One son, William Bratton deLoach died overseas while serving in the World War.

Mrs. deLoach was the widow of W. Bratton deLoach, who for many years a prominent attorney of this city.

Born 8 April 1867 after her father Joseph L Brevard Kershaw returned home after the Civil War. Married William Bratton Deloach on 12 June 1895.
