Bill married Betty Deane Hampton on February 22, 1948. They had three sons, Bill, Doug, & Brad; one daughter, Darci; and eight grandchildren.
He served in the Navy during World War II. He was a sergeant in the Salem Police Department from 1950 to 1962. He then worked as a State Farm agent until retiring shortly before his death.
