When 17 he enlisted in the 11th US MO Vol. Inf. Company "I" on the 28th of March 1864 & Mustered into service on the 29th day of April 1864 at Benton Baricks St. Lewis Mo. The same unit that his older Brother Capt. George C. Adams was in. A gun and a new set of clothes sounded inviting to a boy his age.
Private Albert F, Adams was under Maj Medesta J Green and in Mowers Division during the battle of Nashville Tenn. and was severly wounded in his leg. His records show that he was sent to the General Hospital (Cumberland Hospital)on Dec. 16th 1864 and he died January 10, 1865, 20 days before his 19th birthday, from gunshot wound, intensive fever and diarrheea. He was buried in the City Cemetery grave #11123 (after the war the ladies of Nashville didn't want the Union Soldiers in their cemetery so they had them roughly dug up and re-burried accross the tracks, now the National Cemetery. He is in section "H" Grave #9358 or so they say)
At the time of his death his personal effects were 1 Hat, 1 Great Coat, 2 Shirts, 1 pants & 1 Pocket Book containing $1.35.
