US Congressman. After serving in the Navy during World War II and graduating from Mississippi State University in 1949, Griffin worked for almost twenty years on the staff of U.S. Representative John Bell Williams, becoming Williams' successor as Representative of Mississippi's fourth district when Williams was elected Governor in 1968. In 1973 Griffin retired from Congress to spend full time in Mississippi, where he worked in banking, real estate, and public relations. He returned to the political scene in 1980 when Lieutenant Governor Brad Dye asked him to serve as secretary of the Mississippi Senate, a position he remained in until retiring in 1989 to his farm near Utica, where he died unexpectedly of a heart attack two months later.
