Long-Time Mercer Resident Dies at 81 Tuesday; In Hospital One Week Following Fall

Funeral services for Mrs Josephine Anderson will be held at 2 pm Thursday, January 18 in the Murphy memorial Chapel.

Mrs. Anderson died at College View hospital early Tuesday morning, January 16, 1940. She had been in failing health about two years but had been a patient at the hospital only a week following a fall.

Mrs Anderson was the widow of Charles A Anderson who died November 27, 1931. They had lived on the home farm northwest of Aledo nearly 50 years. The last four years Mrs Anderson had made her home with her daughter, Miss Tillie Anderson on North Walnut Street in Aledo. Mrs Anderson was born at Knoxville December 12, 1858 a daughter of Mr and Mrs Swan Jacobson. She and Mr Anderson were married March 12, 1877. They were the parents of 11 children, three of whom died in infancy, and a daughter, Amanda, and a son, Ralph, in later years.

Survivors include four daughters, Mrs Minnie Bonynge of Rock Falls, IL, the Misses Tillie and Edith Anderson, and Mrs. Boyd (Myrtle) Nesbitt of Aledo; also two sons, Arthur of Muskegon Hts., MI and Earl of Aledo. Mrs Anderson was the last member of her own family.

She was a member of the Methodist church. Rev Clarence Nordling, local pastor of that church, will officiate at the funeral services and burial will be in the Sugar Grove cemetery.
