After the Revolutionary War, in the spring of 1791, her father, with his wife, two sons, Daniel and Peter, and four daughters, Sarah, Elizabeth, Martha and Phebe, left their home in Fishkill, Dutchess Co, NY, on the Hudson, and they became the second family to permanently settle in Deposit.
Philip Pine was opposed to the marriage of his daughter Elizabeth "Betsey" to Samuel Butler, and also to the marriage of his daughter Sarah "Sally" to Jonas Underwood. But the parties in each case would not be thwarted.
Sally slipped away from home to the house of John Hulce, where a minister had been provided, and the knot was tied. In the case of Betsey and Samuel Butler afterward, Pine refused to make a wedding, and Butler went over the river in his working clothes in the middle of the day, was married, and returned to his work. In both cases the marriages were happy and fortunate in the sequel. Both the grooms became prominent citizens, and raised large and respectable families.
Her husband Samuel Butler, was a Captain in the War of 1812, and the son of John Butler and Chloe Norton. They were married on 26 Feb 1801 in Deposit, Broome Co, NY.
Samuel and Betsey had two children: Samuel Pine Butler born on 20 Apr 1805 and Lewis Butler born on 03 May 1810, but Lewis died on 19 May, 1810, aged only 16 days. (Other researchers attribute two daughters Chloe and Eliza to this couple, but this researcher has no firm evidence to this fact.)
Betsey died on 02 Jun 1813 in Deposit, Broome Co, NY, aged 33 Years 8 Months 4 Days.

Between Aug 13 and 23, 2011, all the stones in the Revolutionary War Cemetery were photographed, and no legible gravestone for Elizabeth Butler was found. The inscription is from a serial magazine "Early Settlers of New York State" published in nine volumes between 1934 and 1942, and later reprinted in two volumes with added Introduction, Tables of Contents, and Indexes by Genealogical Publishing Co., Inc. in 1993. The original list of burials in the Old Cemetery, Laurel Bank Ave., Deposit, N.Y., as it is listed starting on pg 779 was compiled by Mr. Winthrop Hopkins of Deposit, N.Y. in 1938 when the stones were not as weathered and were easier to read. There is an original handwritten copy of the list at the Deposit Historical Society.
