Mr. Bernard A. Atkinson Sr., 76, of North Biloxi, died Thursday, Nov. 7, 2002. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 11, at Ocean Springs Chapel with burial Sunset Gardens in Laurel. Mr. Atkinson was a native of Newton County and has been a resident of the coast for the past 37 years. He retired as a Staff Sergeant from the United States Air Force after 22 years of service. He was employed with Ingalls Shipbuilding in the warehouse for 18 years. He was of the Baptist faith. He was preceded in death by his parents, James L. Atkinson Sr. and Mary Sarah Atkinson. Mr. Atkinson is survived by his wife, Virginia Atkinson of Latimer; two daughters, Nancy Franklin of Biloxi and Mary Smith of Vancleave; six sons, Charles Atkinson of Vancleave; David Atkinson of Biloxi, Patrick Atkinson of Mobile, Ala., and James Atkinson, Bernard Atkinson Jr., and Gary Atkinson, all of Latimer; two sisters, Isabelle Duett of Brandon and Olive Purdy of Vista, Calif.; 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held Sunday from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. at Ocean Springs Chapel. Bradford O'Keefe Funeral Home in Ocean Springs is in charge of arrangements.
