Opera Singer. A dramatic soprano, she started her career at Germany's Dresden State Opera in 1936 and made her international debut at the Vienna State Opera in 1944. She was known as a fine actress and performer of great intensity, regarded by many as the last master soprano singer of the German language. Her voice was both brilliant and clear over a range of three octaves. Goltz was a headliner of the Vienna State Opera ensemble from 1950 until she retired in 1970, performing in Salzburg, Milan, Rome, Brussels, London, Buenos Aires and at the New York Metropolitan Opera.
