US Air Force Captain Duane Scott Baker, Vietnam Veteran and native of Renton, Washington.

US Air Force Captain Duane Scott Baker was a casualty of the Vietnam War. As a member of the Air Force, CPT Baker served our country until June 6th, 1967 in Quang Tri, South Vietnam. He was 28 years old and was married. It was reported that Duane died when his plane crashed. His body was recovered. Duane was born on November 24th, 1938 in Renton, Washington. CPT Baker is on panel 21E, line 060 of the Vietnam Memorial Wall in Washington D.C. He served our country for 6 years. Capt Baker was prior enlisted before attending Flight School.

I always remember Duane teaching me to box..And making Jim eat all his carrots...We miss him alot..He loved his family and loved to fly...He always will be, "one hell of a guy"! John G. Van Brunt, Sgt, USMC.

Capt Baker was my armament officer in the 417th Tac Ftr Sqdn at Ramstein Germany in 1966 just prior to his going to SEA. He was a great friend and excellent role model. I still think of him often. Jery L riggins, Ret Msgt, USAF.

Capt. Baker was KIA when his F-100D Super Sabre tail number #55-3766 went down during a strafing run 15 miles NW of Quang Tri City on 6 Jun 67 while serving with the 416th Tactical Fighter Squadron of the 37th TFW then based at Phu Cat AB, SVN. He was awarded The Air Force Senior Aviator Wing Insignia, The Purple Heart Medal, The Air Medal with Devices, The Air Force Longevity Award, The Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Medal, The National Defense Service Medal, The Air Force Outstanding Unit Award, The Vietnam Service Medal with two Bronze Stars, The Vietnam Campaign Medal and The Vietnamese Gallantry Cross Unit Citation.
