Services for Evelyn Schaffner, 87, of Slaton will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2008, in Grace Lutheran Church with Pastor Yvonne Kiebler officiating. Interment will follow in Englewood Cemetery and under the direction of Englunds Funeral Service of Slaton.
Evelyn died Monday, Nov. 10, 2008. She was born Sept. 11, 1921, in Lubbock County to Bernard and Bertha Brieger. She attended school in Posey and graduated from Roosevelt in 1939.
Evelyn married Carlton Schaffner in Wilson on Aug.24, 1944. They lived and raised their family in the Woodrow community for 52 years.
She was a homemaker, a 4H Adult Leader, and a long time member of Grace Lutheran Church.
Her parents and three brothers, Monroe, Curtis (Buddy) and Leonard (Sonny) and sister; Vernita Melcher, have preceded her in death.
Evelyn is survived by her husband of 64 years, Carlton; sons, Mike and wife Betty Schaffner of Brady, Ronnie and wife Beverly Schaffner of Wolfforth, Gary and wife Deniece Schaffner of Woodrow and Dale and wife Sharla of Lubbock, seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
The family will have visitation at the funeral home Tuesday, from 6:30-7:30 p.m. They also suggest memorials to Grace Lutheran Church, 850 West Jean Street, Slaton, TX 79364.
The family also wants to express their appreciation to the staff of Slaton Care Center and SW Regional Skilled Nursing Center.
