Bertha Billips Wiseman, 96, of White Gate and formerly of Bland, VA and Falls Church, VA, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, March 18, 2007 from the Bland County Nursing and Rehabilitation center. She was born October 13, 1910 at Tazewell, Va. and is the daughter of the late William Floyd and Louvenia Compton Billips. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Carl L. Wiseman; three brothers, Alonzo Billips, Woodrow Billips, Eugene Billips; four sisters, Nora Ramsey, Alma Gross, Ethel Billips, Ruby Yates; and a nephew, Billy Gross. She taught in the Fairfax County School system where she retired. She was a member of Mt. Vernon Place Methodist Church in Washington, D.C. and also attended Byrnes Chapel United Methodist Church in Mechanicsburg, VA and Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, Bland, VA. She is survived by three sisters-in-law; Lucille Billips, White Gate, Ruth Billips, Crandon, and Edna Billips, Nashville, Tenn.; seven nephews, Bobby Gross, Don Gross, Eugene Gross, Jimmy Gross, William Billips, Duane Billips, and Dale Billips; six nieces, Betsy Johnson, Sue Montgomery, Carolyn Lizarralde, Lisby Hall, Christine Byrd, and Debbie Fleenor. Funeral services will be Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. at A. Vest & Sons Funeral Home, White Gate, with the Rev. Danny Shortridge officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday after 2 p.m. at the funeral home, and the family will receive friends from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. with services at 7:30 p.m. The interment will be private.
