Ruth was the daughter of Warren Benedy & Mary OcClelia Short Patton. She was born in Kester, Roane Co., WV. She married Roy Ray Armstead, Sr., and they had ten children. She was a Sunday school teacher at Sandy Grove Baptist Church and enjoyed working puzzles. She had a great sense of humor and always found something to laugh about despite the asthma she suffered from. Numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren are named Lea/Lee after her, and one granddaughter, Danette Price Hunt, named her daughter Ruth Lea after her.
