(KS) Belleville Telescope Sept. 4, 1930
Almeda Lavoina Bever was born at Hillsburah, Indiana, on April 4, 1848, and departed this life at her home in Narka, Kansas on Wednesday, August 27, 1930. Her pilgrimage here was measured by eighty-two years, four months and twenty-three days. She moved to Ringgold County, Iowa when six years of age, and when about the age of seventeen she confessed her faith in Jesus Christ and united with the Christian church, and has continued a faithful disciple of her Lord.
On December 28, 1865 she was united in the Holy Bonds of Matrimony to Mr. Thomas Pounds Emery, and in the year of 1883, they moved to Washington County, Kansas, where they made their home. Her husband preceded her to the Great Beyond seventeen years ago last June, and eight years ago she moved to Narka to be with her children. She has been an invalid for the past five year, but patient to the end. All that medical aid and loving hands could do was done that she might regain her normal health, but to no avail. She was a kind and loving mother and a friend to all who knew her.
The nine children born in the family are: James Michael of Courtland, Kansas; Elijah Estol of Narka; Albert Thomas of Kansas City, Mo.; Jesse B. of Burchard, Nebr.; Lillie Dale of Narka; Clarence also of Narka; William Alfred of Topeka; Guy Gilbert of Billings, Mont.; and Annie May Epler of Beaver Crossing, Nebr. Besides the nine children who are all living, eighteen grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, other relatives, neighbors and friends mourn the going of Mrs. Emery.
The funeral services were held on Friday, August 18 at the Presbyterian church at Mahaska, Kansas, conducted by J. E. Parks, Christian Minister of Courtland, and the body was laid to rest in the Mahaska cemetery.
