John F. Felt was born June 2, 1944 , at Chippewa Bay, son of Morris and Erdine Backus Felt. He graduated in 1961 from Hammond Central School, attended Potsdam State University College and graduated in 1969 from Paul Smith's College.He died September 8, 2003 following a liver transplant.

A veteran of the Vietnam War, he served in the Army from 1966 to 1967.

He married Bethany Childs on June 14, 1969, at Presbyterian Stone Church, Ogdensburg.

Mr. Felt worked at Heuvelton Lumber Co. for 15 years, Beacon Feeds, Gouverneur, for six years, and White & Patterson Feed Co., Canton, for three years.

He had his first liver transplant on Oct. 9, 1992. He went to work in 1993 for Hackett True Value, Ogdensburg, where he was a sales clerk in the plumbing and hardware department until 2000. He then worked for Blevins Bros. Inc., Ogdensburg, for about a year, retiring because of ill health.

Mr. Felt was a member of Heuvelton Presbyterian Church and its session, was a Sunday school teacher and was involved with the church youth group and stewardship committee. He was an active member of the organ donation program and had a great interest in American native culture. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, trapping, collecting arrowheads, watching Heuvelton Bulldog sports, gardening and pets.
