Harry Doyle Leach was born on July 17, 1911 at Deerfield Township, Isabella, Michigan. From an excerpt from the Life Story of his father, Bert Leach we read, "When Almy was ready to have my oldest son Harry Doyle Leach we couldn't reach the doctor. So I helped Almy in the delivery. Soon Mrs. Forbes arrived and cleaned up Harry. Then about an hour later the doctor arrived, and was he surprised to see Almy and Harry both doing fine. He asked me who tied the cord and I answered proudly I did. Harry was born on Tim McMann's farm."

1920 census shows Harry D (age 8) living in Flint City, Genesee, Michigan with his father Bert (age 29), mother Ella A (age 27), and his brother Meredith G (age 6). It states that Harry's father was working as a Conductor on the Electric Rail Road. Harry was married twice. His first marriage was to Mary Knight and they had one son.
