U.S. ARMY VETERAN, WORLD WAR II.

Silas enlisted on June 8, 1944 at Fort Dix, New Jersey. He was discharged on April 29, 1946. My uncle would tell my mom stories of him fighting on the front lines in the war and his buddies on each side of him being killed. God Bless all our soldiers and may they rest in peace.

Silas Dingman at 61
Silas L. Dingman, 61, Orchard Street, Fort Plain, died early Saturday morning at St. Mary's Hospital, Amsterdam, after a short illness.
He was born March 12, 1920 in Palatine Bridge, the son of Morgan and Mabel Edgerton Dingman, Sr.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army in World War II, serving with the 14th Armored Infantry Battalion in the Apennine's in Northern Italy.
Mr. Dingman had been employed at Milupa the past three years and previously was employed at Beech-Nut Corp.
He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Stone Arabia and Mohawk Valley Post N. 3275, Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Survivors include a daughter Mrs. William (Diane) Tompkins, Fort Plain, three sons, Larry Dingman, Fort Plain RD 2, Leon Dingman, Canajoharie and Ronald Dingman, Nelliston, Six sisters, Mrs. Rose Surnear, Nebraska, Mrs. Martha Foster and Mrs. Alice McRedmond, both of Gloversville, Mrs. Margaret Ibarra, Calif., Mrs. Hazel Dingman, Fort Plain, and Mrs. Mary Vosburgh, Nelliston, three brothers, Stewart and Harry Dingman, Johnstown, and Bradley Dingman, Northville, 11 grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
His wife, the former Thelma Smith, died in 1980.
Funeral services were held at 2p.m. today in the Houghtaling Funeral Home with the Rev. Kenneth Dingman, pastor of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Fort Plain, officiating. Interment was made in Ephratah Rural Cemetery.
Full military honors were accorded by the VFW Memorial Squadron.
