Succumbs to Attack of Cirrhosis of the Liver Sunday Morning.

Mrs. Susan H. Thompson, wife of W. D. Thompson, after suffering about two months with cirrhosis of the liver, was called to her final home Sunday morning, her death occurring about 9 o'clock. As a last resort, she was operated on four or five weeks ago, and this was followed by several more operations, but the disease would not yield, and finally carried her peacefully away.

Mrs. Thompson was the youngest daughter of the late Abel Chapman, of near here, one of the pillars in the Mt. Moriah Presbyterian church, and was born in this vicinity November 13, 1851. She was a devout Christian woman and a staunch Presbyterian, having united with that church in her young days, and had lived a consecrated and consistent Christian life since that time. Her pastor, who paid a glowing tribute to her life and character, said he had known her for over fifty years, and that when he was ordained pastor of the Mt. Moriah church, 51 years ago, she was a blooming young woman, and characteristic of the Chapman family, who when they espoused a cause, stuck to it, she had joined the Presbyterian church and had lived a consistent Christian. He had visited few death beds that had ever given him the comfort that was afforded by her in her last hours. Her faith was solid and her vision was clear, and he knew she had gone to a heavenly home.

Deceased was married to William D. Thompson on Christmas day, 1869, at Forest, and was the mother of the following children, who still survive her: Mrs. A. N. Ames, of New Orleans; Mrs. J. C. Shaw, of Jackson; Mrs. W. C. Thompson of Meridian; Mrs. C. G. Maynard, Mrs. A. M. Owen and Miss Maude Thompson, of Newton, J. E. Thompson, of Decatur; R. K. and Frank L. Thompson, of Newton. She is also survived by one sister, Mrs. Jim Jones, of Newton, and three brothers, Tom and George Chapman, of Newton, and Abel Chapman, of Texas. Besides these she leaves a number of grand children and other relatives to mourn her death.

Mrs. Thompson had spent most all her life here where she was born, and had hosts of friends who will learn of her demise with sadness.

The funeral rites were held in the Presbyterian church Monday morning at 9 o'clock, Dr. J. D. West, her pastor, officiating and her body was laid to rest in the Knights of Pythias cemetery. Numerous floral gifts attested to the esteem in which she was held. To the aged husband and other relatives The Record extends condolence.

Relatives from out of town who were here at the funeral were: Mrs. A. N. Ames and son, Clifford, New Orleans; Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Shaw and children, Hazel, Wanetta and Clarence, of Jackson; Mr. and Mrs. W. C. Thompson and children, Clara, Mary, Louis and Everett, of Meridian; J. E. Thompson and children, Mary Lou and Albert, of Decatur; Mrs. C. C. Johnson, of Meridian.
