Born in Chicago, Cook Co., IL., he died at University Hospital, Madison, Dane County, Wisconsin (following heart-surgery and the recovery), subsequent to a coronary by-pass procedure [at a time when only 50% of patients survived].
---
He was a musician - a band & vocal music teacher. His nicknames were: "Webb", "Wibber", "Webster", and "Slats". Resided Yorkville, Kendall Co., IL., and Lake Geneva, Walworth Co., WI. He was the holder of a B.A. in Music Theory, from Vandercook School of Music, Chicago, Illinois, USA. He played "live" music "on the air" at WLS AM radio during the "National Barn-dance" Prairie Farmer days [when such technology was "state of the art"]. Taught band and vocal music in the public schools at Yorkville, and Aurora, Illinois - then and later, Burlington WI, and Darien WI. Buried in Pavilion Cemetery, Pavilion Road, Yorkville, Kendall Co., Illinois. Past Master of the Masonic Lodge (Yorkville, IL.), where his father too had been a brother of the, "471 KENDALL LODGE". Parents: Friedrich Ferdinand KUHMANN and Alice May PETERSON-KUHMANN. Spouse: Emma Louise KUECHLER. Wilbur John KUHMAN and Emma Louise KUECHLER were married on 15 Aug 1940 at the home of her sister, Edith Marie Kuechler-Orr in Normal, IL. Louise goes by "Louise E." Children: Richard "Dick" Ned KUHMAN, Jane "Janie" Ann KUHMAN, Gary "Gar or Garold" Lee KUHMAN, Robert "Bobby or Bob" Charles KUHMAN. Wilbur and his brother Fred both pronounced the family name as: "key-ooh-mahn". i.e. KÜHMANN (KUEHMANN) - now known to have been a correct (possible) historical spelling. There are living relatives in the vicinity of the village of Ramsenthal, Landkreis Bayreuth, Bavaria, Germany - yet to this day (circa, July 2010) who spell the name "KUHMANN".
---
His Birth Certificate reads, "Wilbert John Kuhman".
---
Musical instruments played: trumpet (coronet was his specialty); but also, all brass horns (including slide trombone); all reeds (clarinet, sax, except oboe and bassoon); guitar; uke; mandolin; vibraphone; xylophone; various percussions and drums; electric organ; piano. Webb and Louise would sometimes sing and play keyboard duets - he at his "Thomas Monticello" organ, and she at their spinet piano console.
---
At one time, silver-screen star, Gene Autry gave Webb a 6-string acoustic guitar. That instrument "disappeared" from the family collection about 1966 (does anyone know where to locate it, so that it can be restored and donated to the Autry museum in CA.)?
---
Wilbur was a skilled carpenter, but also knew plumbing and how to wire the electrical components of a home - as evidenced by the retreat, then home - that he built in Wisconsin (with his son Robert, and the occasional help of other members of the family).
---
Webb enjoyed helping-out at his brother's farm (the one their Dad had founded). He loved to travel, camp - go boating, fishing, and enjoy his family and friends...
---
He is sorely missed!
