My grandmother Mable was born in Michigan to Lorenzo Edgerton and Rose Etta Dingman. They didn't stay married long, Rose returns home to Montgomery Co., New York with her daughter and divorces Lorenzo. She marries Chauncey Russ and has more children. Chauncey raised Mable as his own child.

I met my grandmother when I was four years, I can still remember sitting at her table and she sat a bowl of soup on the table in front of me to eat. When I was older, my mom told me that my grandmother wanted my mother to give me to her, of course my mother told her she couldn't part with me, I was her little girl. When I was about nine years old, I would write to my grandmother. My mom would put our letters together and mail them, my grandmother would write back, a letter for my mother and a letter to me, she sent me a picture of her. I hope to post it soon on her memorial.

My grandmother worked very hard to take care of her family. My mother would tell me her mom would stay up all night one night a week baking twelve loaves of bread for the week. My mom loved her mother's cooking.

My grandmother loved dogs and always owned a dog, sometimes more than one. She always kept her dogs in the house with her. She even owned a pet goat named Sally at one time.

My grandmother was living with her granddaughter in Gloversville, when she died in her sleep from a heart attack. I still remember the day my mother got the news of her mother's death. It was such a sad day, I felt a great loss. I remember my mom making preparations to go to her mother's funeral in New York. We were living in Arizona at the time.

I have been to New York about four times, each time I visit my grandparent's graves. Two of my uncles are buried next to my grandparents, as are two cousins. My grandfather's sister is also buried nearby.

Grandma died when I was about ten years, I would have loved to spend time with her and get to really know her. My mom would tell me her mother was very wonderful and kind. I would have loved to sit on her porch with her and listened to her stories. Someday, I will get the chance to see her again and spend time with her.
