He was united in marriage to Cathy Mask on March 20, 1970, at Salem. To this union two children were born. He was a lineman with North Arkansas Electric Cooperative in Salem for many years. He was a member of the Salem Church of Christ.
Survivors include: his wife, Cathy of Salem; his children; Melvin Shoemate of Salem and Melba Joice and husband Dean of Salem; his grandchildren; Dakota Shoemate, Kathryn Joice, Brandie Joice and Katie Joice; his brother, Harold Shoemate of Campbell, Mo.; brothers and sisters-in-law: Ella Dean Shoemate of Salem, Diane and Randy Dunn of Mammoth Spring, Ray and Carroll Mask of Camp, Ricky and Marsha Mask of West Plains, Mo., Laytham and Barbara Mask of Terrell, Texas, Vickie Haynes of Memphis and Jim Haynes of Memphis; and several nieces; nephews and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by: two brothers, Onies and Duane Shoemate, and his father and mother.
