World War I Italian Army Soldier. The last Italian veteran of World War I. A member of the Italian 6th Bersaglieri Bologna Infantry regiment, he fought on the Alpine Front during World War I, and was wounded at the Battle of Caporetto in November 1917. He was captured by Austrian-Hungary forces, but managed to escape just before then end of the war. When he died at age 110 in 2008, only two other World War I combat veterans were still alive in the world.
