US Beauty Pageant Queen. In 1954, she was crowned Miss America and remains the only Miss Pennsylvania to win the national pageant. Prior to her national title, she was Miss Ephrata Fair, Tobacco Queen of Lancaster County, Miss National AMVET and Miss Pennsylvania, in 1953. She remained active with the pageant for decades judging local and national pageants, also making public appearances as a motivational speaker to women's business groups. She died of cancer.
