Byron Leslie Adams was the son of Mary Catherine Lepper (1854–1939) and William Penn Adams (1849–1919).

He registered for the World War I Draft in Raleigh, NC, June 5, 1917, at age 24, residence 218 S. Harrington, Raleigh, NC; occupation Manager of Raleigh Office. P.H. Breuellet News Agency, Raleigh, NC.

He served in World War I with Co. L, 322nd Infantry, from September 18, 1917 to February 6, 1918, and Co C, 11th Infantry, from February 6, 1918, to June 8, 1918, and Co B, 11th Infantry from June 8, 1918, to honorable discharge July 30, 1919. He served as a Cook with the Headquarters Detachment, 5th Division. He served overseas from August 22, 1918, to July 26, 1919. His grades with date of appointment were Cook, Oct 11, 1917; Pvt March 22, 1918; Cook April 1, 1918; and Pvt June 8, 1918.

He was listed in the 1935 Florida State Census at 2544 W. 25th St.Miami, Dade Co., Florida, as Byron L. Adams, 41, b. NC; occupation Chef.

He was listed in the 1940 US Census in Macon Co., NC, as Byron Leslie Adams, age 46, single, born in NC, about 1897; single, age 46; residence in 1935 Miami, Dade Co., Florida; occupation Chef, Yacht.

He died at age 74 years, single; occupation Cook, Civil Service; last residence 1104 Evans St., Morehead City, NC; buried at Bay View Cemetery August 11, 1968.
