Nellie Bly Rice, 85, of Rogers, Ark., died Wednesday, Aug. 16, 2006, in Rogers. She was born Aug. 18, 1920, in Sedalia, Mo., to William Joseph Dickerson and Bly Gresham Dickerson.
She was a homemaker, and during World War II, she helped build destroyers and destroyer escorts for the U. S. Navy. She also co-founded the first Humane Society in Rogers.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin Rice.
Survivors include six children, Pat Clyburn of Rogers, Nellie Messerly of Beryl, Utah, Deidre Knight of Bella Vista, Ark., Raymond C. Clyburn of Dutch Mills, Ark., Michael Clyburn of Tallassee, Ala., and Stephen Jordan of Rogers; 13 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Graveside funeral services will be at 10 a. m. Saturday, Aug. 19, at the Oakley Chapel Cemetery in Rogers with the Rev. Steve Jordan.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Rogers Humane Society or to the Bella Vista Animal Shelter, in care of the Benton County Funeral Home, 306 N. Fourth St., Rogers, AR 72756.
