Esther K. Bruce, 90, Lenexa, formerly of Kansas City, Kan., died Oct. 16, 2001, at Overland Park Regional Medical Center. She was born March 9, 1911 in Harper. She moved to Canada with her parents in 1918 and retumed to Kansas in 1928. Mrs. Bruce graduated from Hesston College in Hesston and was an elementary school teacher in Holton for 40 years before retiring in 1975. She also taught in Meade and Kansas City, Kan. She was a member of the Holton United Methodist Church and was active in the church's Ladies Circle. She also was a member of the Retired Teacher's Association, the Delta Kappa Gamma Society ard served many years as a member of the International Republican Party. She married Estel Bruce in 1959 in Holton. He preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by five brothers and a sister. Survivors include three sisters, Estella Kieffaber, DeSoto, Elvera Berkey, Mena, Ark., and Eldora Hartzler, Kansas City, Kan. Funeral services were held Oct. 19 at Simmons Funeral Home in Kansas City, Kan. Graveside services were held Oct. 20 in Holton Cemetery.
