Mr. Brown was born in Altus, Okla., and moved to Arizona at age 5. A lifelong love of sports began at Casa Grande Union High School, where he played quarterback on the football team. After serving with the U.S. Navy in the Pacific during World War II, he returned to Casa Grande and was plant manager of the Fannin butane and appliance business.
In the 1950s and '60s he raised cotton in the Midway-Stanfield area. He served on the Casa Grande City Council, was active with the Jaycees, played in local softball leagues and coached Little League. From 1968 until his retirement, he owned and operated Paramount (later Brown's) Meat Packing.
He loved horses, competing in team roping. He also enjoyed horse racing, and raised and raced quarter horses and thoroughbreds. Following retirement, he was active in the Casa Grande VFW, serving on the building committee. He died June 22, 1996.
He is survived by his wife, Bettie; a daughter, Nanette Hrenko of St. Louis; a son, Jesse of Merced, Calif.; and two sisters, Nina Sue Prock, of California and Lucille Erwin, of Oklahoma.
