PLEASANT GARDEN, NC - Mrs. Frances P. Lewis, 86, passed away at 12:28 am on Friday, October 17, 2008, at Wesley Long Hospital in Greensboro, North Carolina.
A graveside service was held at 2 pm on Monday, October 20, 2008 in Guilford Memorial Park.
Frances was born and raised in Greensboro, in the Proximity Mill Village section of the Cone Mills area. She was the third of four children of John L. Phillips and Nellie Cagle Phillips.
During her younger years she worked as a civilian driver for the Overseas Replacement Depot (ORD) during World War II.
After the War she met the love of her life, Irvin T. Lewis. They were married on July 19, 1947, and shared 61 beautiful years together until his passing on Thursday, August 28, 2008 at 6:24 pm, only seven weeks prior.
She was a member of the Dr. Siske Sunday School Class at Pleasant Garden United Methodist Church, where she was also a member.
In addition to her parents, Frances was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Irvin; her sister and brother-in-law, Allegra P. "Lig" Murphy (Roy); her brothers and their wives, Garland Phillips (Lundy); and John L. "Jake" Phillips (Mary).
Her immediate survivors are her daughter, Kathy; and son, Gary Lewis.
Also surviving are several beloved nieces and nephews, cousins and many friends.
She will be greatly missed.
