Death of Ambrose Jenkins

Ambrose Jenkins was born in West Virginia, March 20th, 1823, died February 19th 1905, aged 81 years 10 months and 29 days. He moved with his parents to Indiana at the age of seven years. Was married to Rebecca Ann Standley May 18, 1844 and they came to Iowa in 1854. To this union were born ten children, four sons and six daughters of whom only two sons and three daughters remain to mourn his loss.

For the last 27 years he has lived with his son-in-law, Delos Brower, where he has been loved and tenderly cared for. He was an early settler in this state and has passed through many hardships experienced by the early settlers. He was a good citizen and a kind father to his children. Funeral was held Wednesday at 10 o'clock at the Christian church conducted by Rev. Johnson, of Cumberland. The remains were laid to rest in the Witt cemetery beside his wife.

Grandpa Jenkins was taken seriously sick on Tuesday and gradually grew worse until Sunday when he died about noon. He had been in feeble health for the past year but several weeks before his last attack had seemed much stronger than usual.
