Catherine Frances Keller came to this country from Baveria, Germany with her family in 1843. Her parents were George and Anna Marie Keller. Siblings were Maria, Alfred, Caroline, William, George and Elisabeth. Catherine married Nicholas Barnhart on January 1, 1865 in Scioto County, Ohio. Nicholas Barnhart came to the United States from Mainz, Hesse-Darmstadt, Germany on the ship Bark Frederick from Belgium and arrived in New York on July 27, 1843. His parents were Jacob and Barbary Bernhard (later changed to Barnhart). Nicholas was a farmer, a tinner and a Civil War soldier.

Nicholas and Catherine had eight children:

Mary Edith
Laura Jane
George Nicholas
Iva Estelle
