He arrived on 9 July 1913 at the Port of New York aboard the SS Hellig Olav, which sailed from Copenhagen, Denmark. He enlisted as a Private on 1 June 1917 at Columbus, Ohio (Serial Number 1027677). He was promoted to Private 1st Class 1 Sept 1918.
