Marshall E. Barnes, 84, passed away Saturday, October 11, 2008, at his home.
Marhsall performed over four decades on the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville, Tenn. and toured the country with Opry's top performers including, Cowboy Copas and the original Oklahoma Cowboys, Grandpa Jones and Roy Acuff.
He also performed with the Bill Carlisle and Porter Wagoner shows. Marshall was a singer and played the bass fiddle and guitar. He served two tours of duty in the Army during World War II, fought in the Battle of the Bulge and at Anzio Beach, earning two bronze stars, the Eamet Service Medal, American Theatre Ribbon, and Good Conduct Medal with World War II Victory Medal clasp.
Mr. Barnes was an honorable and honest man, who loved his Lord and was a member of the Washington Baptist Church of Greer.
He was the son of the late Snodie and Marie Barnes, he was a native of Greenville County.
He is survived by two sisters, Mary Biermann and Ona Reid, both of Greenville.
He was preceeded in death, by his wife, Daisy Castle Barnes, one brother and one sister.

His sisters would like to express thanks to a special friend, Rosetta Miller.
Visitation will be held 10 to 11 a.m. at the Wood Mortuary.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday at the Wood Mortuary conducted by Dr. Drew Hines and Rev. Joe Price. Burial will be in Woodlawn Memorial Park, Greenville.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Washington Baptist Church Building Fund, 3500 N. Highway 14, Greer, SC 29651-1510
