Nicknamed Gid, and son of James (Jim) Calvin DeLay and Harriet Cooper. Gid's father served in the 25th Texas Calvary Co. E and the 9th Texas Calvary Co. K., and died on the battlefield at Chickamauga 20 September 1863 in Georgia.
Gideon married Mary B. Bankston 06 July 1882 in Fannin County, Texas. Their only child was Arizona, born 16 July 1883 in Fannin County.
After the death of Mary, he married Iva Snow in 1893. Their children were Nathaniel (Nathan), Mattie and Thomas (Tom) Delay.
His third marriage was to Katherine (Rena) Kennedy, who is buried near Gideon. They married 29 Sept. 1917 in Oklahoma. It is unknown if he and Rena had any children.
