Gertie E. Gamble, 79, of Pittsburg, died at 11:40 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2003, at Mt. Carmel Regional Medical Center, Pittsburg. She was born March 24, 1924, at Fort Douglas, Ark., to Saul and Cynthia (Hughes) Stone. She attended schools in Arkansas and graduated from high school in Deer, Ark., with the class of 1942.

She lived in Pittsburg since 1968. While living in Kansas City, she worked for City Directory for 10 years. In Pittsburg, she was a nurse's aide at Mt. Carmel Regional Medical Center for more than 20 years and helped raise foster children.

She married Earl Gamble at Fort Scott. He preceded her in death March 9, 1984.

Survivors include a daughter, Judy Castagno of Pittsburg; a son, James Winfield of Hagerville, Ark.; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents, seven brothers and two sisters.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 13, at Bath-Naylor Funeral Home, Pittsburg. Burial will follow at Mt. Olive Cemetery, Pittsburg. Informal visitation will be Friday at the funeral home, where friends may call after 6 p.m. Arrangements are under the direction of Bath-Naylor Funeral Home, 522 S. Broadway, Pittsburg.
