His parents were Joseph Athon and Martha Taylor Grant Athon. Asbury married Artemisia Pearson November 22, 1866.

A. W. Athom, who states date of birth as Aug 1, 1833 in Sunny Co, N. C. has a CSA pension application on line in the GA Archives. He says he enlisted in June 1861 in Richmond, Va and served with Company G of the 12th GA Vols, Doles Brigade. He was discharged at Appamattox Court House VA in April 1865. He had to apply for a pension as his wife had died and he had a bent and stiff left arm from the war. Proof of his death on 26 Jan 1918 in Baldwin County, GA is included in the paperwork.
