Olympic Games Gold Medalist Athlete. He was a champion cross-country skier, winning the gold medal in the 30-kilometer freestyle and a silver medal in the 4x10 kilometer at the 1988 Calgary Winter Olympics. Prokurorov competed in five Olympic Winter Games, his last being at Nagano, Japan, 2002, where he was the Russian team's flag-bearer. He also was a 13-time National Champion and a 6-time World Champion. Cause of death, traffic accident.
